Reportedly strikes four days after being freed
This Wednesday, exactly a week after being granted bail on a rape charge, a 20-year-old youth appeared before Maun Magistrate Court accused of raping another woman during his short-lived freedom.
The suspect, Leornard Dimbo is said to have struck at around 3am on Sunday morning (24 October), allegedly breaking into the victim’s house under cover of darkness.
Reportedly armed with a knife, police believe the Gxhabara ward native woke the sleeping lady, ordered her to undress before switching off the bedroom lights and then raping her without using protection.
Given the seemingly straightforward job of securing the suspect’s remand, the officer investigating the case, Mesiah Lesego noted Dimbo had broken his bail conditions soon after being released.
“The accused person was arraigned before Court 1 on the 19th of October for a single count of rape which he committed on the 27th of September. He was given bail but one of the conditions was that he should not commit any offence. Four days after being granted bail he committed the same offence! I pray that this court deny him bail as he is likely to continue committing similar offence,” argued Lesego.
When asked to comment on the state’s application, Dimbo told court he did not have any questions for the state but promised to stop raping women.
Unimpressed, Magistrate Keneilwe Kgoadi told the accused serial rapist he would be spending the next month behind bars.
“The accused was arraigned and granted bail for the offence of rape. Seven days later he is back before court on new charges of rape which was allegedly committed four days after being granted bail. The accused person does not deny the same but simply tells the court that he will not go on to commit further offences of rape!” exclaimed Magistrate Kgoadi.
Dimbo was then sent back to prison on remand and will be back before court on 26 November.
