A teenager is facing a murder charge after allegedly chopping down a man who accused him of stealing his cellphone.
Maduo Nagafela, 19, reportedly handed himself into Ditshegwane Police Post at around midnight on the day of the killing (Monday 24 July), still clutching the bloodied axe used in the deadly dispute.
After the suspect’s apparent confession, the police rushed to the scene to help the injured man, 35-year-old Zimbabwean native, Offiase Dabhiya.
Bleeding from deep cuts to his head and below the chin, although Dabhiya was hurried to the hospital, it was already too late and he certified dead upon arrival.
Nagafela, of Magano ward in Ditshegwane, was arraigned before Molepolole Magistrates Court two days later (27 July) and was duly remanded behind bars.
The teen will return to court for mention on 14 August before Chief Magistrate, Gaseitsewe Tonoki.
