A Mathangwane man accused of killing and hiding girlfriend’s body under her bed has been further remanded in custody by a Molepolole Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, 35-year-old Boga Keakile is charged with murder of Lynet Otshotswe Tsiaka at Tshosa ward in Gakgatla village.
When delivering ruling on Keakile’s bail application, Magistrate Rosemary Khuto said the prosecution has indicated that the accused was a flight risk as he was recently arrested at Hukuntsi on August 31st, 2020 while he committed the offence on July 8th, 2020 at Gakgatla.
“The accused said he escaped because he was in shock. He said he cannot escape as he is a Motswana citizen from Mathangwane village and if granted bail he will not interfere with investigations. He says he will move from Kweneng to Mathangwane,” said the magistrate further adding: “He is said to have fled to a very far place and was arrested a month later. When the shock befell him he did not think about his place in Mathangwane but instead fled to a very far pace. The shock that befell him might befall him when trial approaches and he may escape to another place which cannot be anticipated. The accused will be remanded till the finalisation of this matter.”
Keakile has allegedly confessed to the police claiming that they were fighting over a cellphone after he received a message, when he committed the offence.
As they were fighting, he claimed, his girlfriend fell down and hit the floor with the back of her head and while she was unconscious he pushed her under the bed and ran away.
The 44-year-old Tsiaka’s badly decomposed body was discovered on Sunday July 12th, 2020 afternoon by her relatives as they were on her search since she had been missing for three days.
While on the search, the relatives realised that one of her house windows was opened and one of them peeped through and got disturbed by a foul stench and they forcefully opened the door.
When they lifted the bed, they were shocked to find the decomposed body.
The duo who have been cohabiting since last year were staying at the deceased’s yard together with her seven children.
The case has attracted public interest in Kweneng region as the deceased is a daughter to Gakgatla village Kgosi Lenyetse Moshapa.
Keakile’s mention is scheduled for November 3rd, 2020 for status update.
