A suspected sodomizer who appeared in court accused of sexually violating a 14- year- old boy has been sent to jail to await trial.
The 49-year-old -Dube Zenzo is alleged to have raped the young boy at Chadibe farms.
He was arrested the same day of the suspected rape and arraigned before Francistown Magistrate Court, where Prosecutor Sub Inspector Isaiah Oabile prayed that he be remanded in custody.
“This is a fresh matter pending investigations. The accused person told us he has a passport and that it was with his employer.
“He then gave us a phone number which was meant to be for the employer but when we phone it, the person on the other end said she was in Maun and that she did not know the accused. We therefore request for more time to conduct our investigations,” Prosecutor Oabile told the court.
When asked if he has anything to say in court, Zenzo said he was a high blood pressure patient.
“If they take me to prison right now without my medication I am going to have a problem as even now I am feeling dizzy,” Zenzo protested.
The Prosecutor then called the Investigating Officer Detective Mabotswana Jappi to the dock.
Jappi told the court that during her encounter with the accused person she learnt that he was a foreigner who could not produce any documents to show that he was in the country legally.
She went on to say that concerning the rape case she had not met with the victim to further her investigations and for those reasons Zenzo must be remanded in custody because if he was to be given bail he might skip the country and deny his victim justice.
Magistrate Thapelo Buang headed the prosecution request to lock up Zenzo and sent him to prison.
