Former Council Chairman distances himself from missing P15million
Former Kweneng District Council (KwDC) Chairperson, Jeffery Sibisibi, was this week at pains to clear his name in the missing P15 million for Letlhakeng Sub District Council.
The former council boss is at the centre of the P15 million scandal which is part of funds that were allegedly invested by Letlhakeng Sub-District Council with Blue Thorn Fund Managers, a company that was formerly owned by Sibisibi.
The funds were allegedly invested for a period of three months, from December 13th, 2019 to March 20th, 2020.
About 7 companies were invited to tender for the investment and Blue Thorn Fund Managers emerged as the preferred investment company.
According to the finance committee report, Letlhakeng Sub Council had invested with the company which previously traded as Ecsponet Asset Management since June 18th, 2018.
The sub district council is said to have made at least 10 investment transactions ranging between P10 million and P20 million, with the company.
In an interview with this publication, Sibisibi maintained his innocence and said there are certain people who are out to tarnish his good name.
“I do not know why these people are doing that, but at least I know them. I know they always do that as I am not their first victim. They have a habit of following people with wrong allegations. Those allegations are false because I do not belong to the mentioned company. I have been a Council Chairman before and I know the procedure,” said Sibisibi.
The former KwDC Chairperson reluctantly admitted that his 21-year-old daughter, Kelebogile Sibisibi, is a shareholder at Blue Thorn Fund Managers.
“I cannot deny or confirm that my family members are doing businesses. Now that they are saying I influenced my daughter, I asked them to check if I am in the finance committee. My role was to do council duties. Everyone has the right to do what they want and I should not be involved in people’s issues just because they are my relatives.”
Although Sibisibi denied ever being the director of Blue Thorn Fund Managers, the Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) website indicates that he is a former director for the company.
The website further indicates that Blue Thorn has 700 shares while Kelebogile Kelly Sibisibi has 300 shares.
However, Kweneng District Councillors during the full council meeting last week made a decision that the matter be handed over to Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) for investigations.
