ACCUSED: Motlhanka Robert

A 54-year-old security guard accused of murder was granted bail by Francistown Magistrate Court on Monday.

Motlhanka Robert, a guard at Hyprop Company in Tatisiding, is suspected of killing 29-year-old Ketlhobogile Mocheche on the evening of Monday 14 October.

A passerby discovered the deceased’s body in the bush behind the police camp at Francistown’s Block 7 location the next morning.

The grey haired grandpa unwittingly handed himself into Kutlwano Police, turning up to report the altercation without realizing the other man was in fact dead.

“The man came to our offices and reported what he encountered in the night with a man he doesn’t know and we arrested him. When he came to report, he did not know the other man was dead!” Kutlwano Police Station Assistant Superintendent, Alice Oabile told The Voice at the time.

Having been on remand for over a month, Robert was granted bail on condition that he binds himself with P5, 000.

“Attend court when required and do not interfere with the witnesses,” added Chief Magistrate Faith Dlamini-Ngandu.

Sources on the street say Robert was returning home from work when the man he ended up killing tried to rob him.

“He was acting in self-defence!” speculated the source.

However, preliminary observations from the police revealed Mocheche’s body sustained serious injuries but the motive and weapon used is still unknown
