CONFIRMING: Letlhakane Police Station Commander, Maphephu

Letlhakane Police Officers are investigating a case in which an eight-year-old girl was found hanging in her parents’ house in Sekwe ward on Sunday.

In a brief interview with The Voice, Letlhakane Station Commander, Michael Maphephu, confirmed the sad incident.

“The girl was in the house with her younger sister and the house helper. When the helper and the younger sister went into the bedroom, she locked them inside. It is suspected that is when she hanged herself in the living room. The helper and the younger sister were let out by a neighbour after screaming that they had been locked in,” revealed Maphephu, adding the neighbour arrived to find the girl hanging from the roof with the belt from the dress she was wearing.

“The body was taken to Letlhakane Primary Hospital where she was confirmed dead,” continued the top cop, who added that foul play is not suspected.

Staying in the mining town and also on Sunday, police are investigating a road accident that claimed the life of one person along Mosu-Matshumo road.

“The RunX car was carrying seven people, including the driver, who is now late. All the passengers were treated at Letlhakane Primary Hospital and discharged. The road is slippery therefore we advise people to be careful,” closed Maphephu.
