Suspected ‘road rage’ killer remanded
Extension II Magistrate Kamogelo Mmesi this Wednesday denied murder suspect, Forget Nature Machete bail.
Court heard that on the 29th of this month between 10 and 10:30pm, Machete allegedly stabbed Ekabang Makaka with a sharp object to death in a road rage incident. Plea was reserved.
It is alleged the 28-year-old suspect had been driving recklessly and scratched the vehicle that was in front when he tried to overtake, just a few kilometres before Boatle village along the Lobatse road.
The other driver is said to have tried to stop him but he drove away and pulled off at a bus stop near Mokolodi turn-off.
The occupants of the other vehicle, a driver and passenger, allegedly found him at the bus stop and the three had a verbal exchange before the offending driver stabbed the rival passenger with a sharp object.
34-year-old Makaka from Otse village was rushed to the hospital where the doctors certified him dead upon arrival.
State Prosecutor, Inspector Peter Tapela Simisani told court that the matter is still at an initial stage and that investigations commenced this Monday.
He said murder is a serious offence and they needed more time to investigate.
“We need more time to complete our investigations therefore we are applying for further detention. Investigating officers have not finished registering the possible state witnesses. We are still waiting for the doctor’s report which we are going to use in our investigations. Tempers of the grieving family and friends are still high and therefore it is not safe to grant the accused bail,” said Simisani.
When asked if he has anything to say, Machete said he won’t be able to conduct his own defence and told the court that he will engage an attorney for his next mention.
Chief Magistrate agreed wit be brought back to court on the 23rd of December for status update.
