Steve Harvey promises to transform BW’s film and tv industry
Steve Harvey already has a list of productions he aims to bring to Botswana and top of that list is the award winning daytime TV show Family Feud. He however revealed that although contestants will be Batswana, filming will be done in Johannesburg, South Africa despite the newly revamped BTV Studio 4. According to him, the studio is too small to host the show
“I got a tour of the studio earlier and it won’t work because we need about 40 feet high ceilings, and wider space. Hopefully, with time we will move it here,” he said on Monday evening during the launch of the new channel BTV 4 which is dedicated to the creative industry.
Family Feud is a game show in which five members of one family are pitted against five members of another family. Each team’s goal is to guess the results of audience survey questions. A player from each team initially faces off, answering the question to earn the chance to either pass or play. The winning family gets a chance to earn extra cash in a bonus round.
The show won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show in 1977 and 2019. The South African version which is hosted by Steve Harvey also gained popularity, to become South Africa’s most watched TV Show with over 2.2 million viewers in 2019.
“I make hits, and I am here to teach the youth how to also make shows that sell,” he said, following the revelation that his company Steve Harvey Global Productions will partner with the Department of Broadcasting Services (DBS) for new tv productions for the new station.
Harvey also promises to bring to Botswana, Africa’s version of America’s funniest home videos and many more unmentioned shows. He however could not give a timeline of when all these shows will start airing, stating that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
His Excellency President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi could not contain his excitement over the launch of the joint venture which was sold during a town hall meeting at the University of Botswana in 2019.
Certain that BTV Studio 4 is the missing puzzle piece, Masis called on young people in the creative sector to utilize the resources being offered by his government through the studio.
