Mosetse Football team survive freak car accident

“The rear wheel fell off and the car veered off the road!” Mosetse Councilor, Mctean Jimane

Three players of Mosetse Football Club are nursing serious injuries following a freak car accident on Sunday afternoon.

Township Rollers former towering defender, Oscar Ncenga is amongst the injured and is currently recuperating at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital having sustained a serious gash to the head.

The newly formed second division side were on their way to Maposa for a pre-season match when one of the back wheels of the Hilux they were travelling in fell off.

The mishap occurred at the Mowana Mine turn near Mosetse, with the wounded taken to Dukwi clinic, where those with minor injuries were treated and discharged. Eight players with more serious injuries were rushed to Tutume Primary Hospital and later referred to Nyangabgwe.

According to the driver, Mosetse Councilor, Mctean Jimane, one player broke his leg and was transferred to Tati River Clinic for an operation.

“Eight players were referred to Nyangagbwe and five have been discharged leaving only three,” said Jimane, who walked away with minor injuries.

“The van carried 13 players in the back, and three including the driver in the front. The rear wheel fell off and the car veered off the road,” he revealed.

The Councillor, a Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) member, told The Voice the accident has traumatised players, who have been looking forward to the start of the league this weekend.

“They need counselling. We’ve written to Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA) to postpone our games, to allow us to heal. We’ll start our season next year,” he concluded grimly.
