Nyame takes Matenge, Showa to task over defilement accusations
Gaborone Businessman, Resego Matenge popularly known as Leshman and Nolwazi Showa appeared at Broadhurst Magistrate court on Monday facing charges of use of offensive electronic communication.
Allegations are that Showa sent Matenge a voice note claiming that the owner of Cigar Lounge Phakalane, Pedro Nyame had defiled her 16- year- old daughter.
After listening to Showa’s voice note, a concerned Matenge called the seemingly distressed woman and she broke down on the phone claiming she was at a police station to report the matter.
Police allege that Matenge then sent the voice note to Daniel Kenosi who published it on his Facebook page.
On the voice note, Nolwazi is heard saying that Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) President, Duma Boko was the father of her abused daughter, claims that have since been established to be false and baseless.
The Court heard that the two accused persons and another not before court on or about the 26th of December 2019, acting together with common purpose willfully and maliciously used electronic communication of an offensive nature.
It is further alleged that the two created publication of the said communication via voice note across several social media platforms indicating that Mokwadi Pedro Nyame had defiled a 16-year-old girl.
The voice note is said to have been false and thereby offensive in nature and not intended for any legitimate communication. It is also said to have thereby disturbed the piece, quiet and privacy of Nyame and the young girl.
State Prosecutor Wedu Mbongwe said that police investigations on the matter are complete. However she applied for the taking of pleas to be postponed to allow Matenge to engage a different lawyer for the next mention.
Chief Magistrate Lenah Mokibe-Oahile adjourned the case to October 29th when the accused would be expected to make a plea.
