ABSA Bank Botswana Limited, one of Botswana’s leading financial institutions, donated a Sick Bay to the Lephoi Centre for the Blind on Friday last week in Francistown.

The bank says it saw it fit to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the students housed at the Lephoi Centre by donating a fully equipped Sick Bay to the students.

The absence of a Sick Bay is said to have been a pressing concern for the Lephoi Centre as they struggled to handle day-to-day medical problems and administering first aid to injured students.

Kegomoditswee Gaebolae, Regional Manager of Absa Bank Botswana, expressed her excitement about the contribution, which she said is compatible with the Bank’s commitment to supporting education and skills development in the country.

“We are delighted to assist the Lephoi Centre by providing students with a fully functional Sick Bay. Absa Bank Botswana strongly believes in the value of education and skill development, particularly for people with special needs. This donation demonstrates our commitment to giving back to the community and to the development and well-being of the people of Botswana,” said Gaebolae.

The Sick Bay costed P 266 475, and it came equipped with all the necessary medical equipment, to provide quality health care services at the centre.

Kitso Ramahobo, the chairperson of Lephoi Centre for the Blind Board, stated that the Sick Bay comes at an ideal moment because they had been using their Matron’s office as a Sick Bay and there were times when they had multiple learners who fell ill at the centre and they had no choice but to send them back home for isolation.

“We appreciate Absa Bank Botswana’s contribution. The Sick Bay we are receiving today will help the Centre meet with health and environmental regulations, and the issue of sending sick students home who end up missing lessons will be a thing of the past,” Ramahobo added.
