Botswana Defence Force will continue building infrastructure they deem necessary in their operations in order to achieve their mission.

In an interview with this publication following allegations that the BDF was building a runway in the Deltas, BDF’s Director, Protocol and Public Affairs, Colonel Tebo Dikole said due to the terrain in some places where they conduct their operations they are forced to construct airstrips for easy access.

“Due to logistics supply, rotational trips and the call to deliver, we have built airstrips in Nogatshaa, Kwando and Linyanti and the communities around those areas have benefited too.”

He said it was shocking that some people want to sensationalise such developments when they never ask about the communities in Mogoditshane benefiting from Sir Seretse Khama Barracks.

“BDF cannot exist in isolation. Whatever developments we do, the communities around tender to benefit and some of those airstrips were built during former President Ian Khama’s tenure. We have to maintain them since they are useful.

He pleaded with the public to be cautious with some information shared to them as it borders on security operations.
