Following the deaths of hundreds of Botswana elephant last year, another similar phenomenon has been recorded at Mombo in Moremi Game Reserve.
A total of five elephant deaths has been recorded as of yesterday.
Confirming the incident, Ngamiland Regional Wildlife Officer- Dimakatso Ntshebe, revealed that they have not yet established the cause of the elephant’s deaths. “The details of the matter are still sketchy; I can confirm that some of our officers left yesterday to investigate and possibly establish the cause,” said Ntshebe.
Ruling out the possibility of poaching, Ntshebe highlighted that all the elephants have been found with their tusks still intact.
The mysterious deaths of elephant in the Okavango delta last year were said to have been caused by toxins produced by cyanobacteria in water.
