VTM FC’s Premier League dream

In 2017, Mmakgosi FC, was a struggling Kweneng Division three side on the brink of relegation. The Molepolole outfit needed a miracle to preserve their league status, and in came VTM Security Company.

The company founded by Vincent Mafuta in 2011 injected money into the ailing club, a timely intervention that saved the club from the dreaded relegation.

VTM Security deals with all security solutions amongst them guarding, alarms and monitoring, CCTV, and Electromesh.

The team would later rebrand and took the name VTM FC, as Mafuta embarked on a five-year plan to turn the club into a formidable side.

In a press briefing on Tuesday this week, Mafuta said acquiring the team was one of his long-held dreams.

“My passion and ambition to own a football club are going according to plan. Our intention is to play in the elite league one day,” he said.

“I know it’s going to be a mammoth task as most high profile clubs are struggling financially but we are optimistic that we are building a brand that will one day be adored by many Batswana,” he said.

“We want to build VTM Village, and it is currently under construction as we were given a piece of land in Metsimotlhabe,” he said.

VTM Security Operations Manager Thapelo Gabanamotse said the partnership with the club was a strategic decision that has worked wonders for both club and business.

“Any brand in the world that wants to grow will always align itself to football. We set ourselves a five-year plan and so far things are looking good. We’ve managed to acquire a Molepolole based side Masitaoka FC’s spot in the Kweneng Region Division One league and were doing well before football action was halted due to the outbreak of Covid-19,” he said.

“We were able to compete with powerhouses. We were third on the log and were confident of making the play-offs,” Gabanamotse told Voice Sport.

He further said almost all of their players have been absorbed into VTM Security.

“We’ve hired almost a100 percent of VTM players, and we make it a point that when an opportunity comes we consider them first. We have created a system that allows players to rest and give their best in the field,” he said.

The team is under the tutelage of former hard-hitting BDF XI and Township Rollers left Otantshekela Mooketsi.

The 33-year old who retired early from football due to injury he hopes to earn his coaching badges while guiding his exciting club to the promised land.

“I’m yet to acquire my coaching qualification, but starting at the lowest divisions has allowed me to grow and very soon I’ll get the necessary coaching qualification,” he told Voice Sport.
