Local manufacturer eye SADC expansion

Local LED bulb manufacturing company, The Bulb World plans to penetrate the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region soon.

However, before it ventures beyond borders, the company intends to conquer the local market.

Established in 2016 by entrepreneur Ketshephaone Jacob, The Bulb World has since set up a manufacturing factory in Selibe Phikwe.

Talking to Voice Money, the enterprise’s Marketing and Sales Officer, Keamogetse Kgomela revealed the light-giving company is currently operating way under capacity.

“Our factory has the capacity to produce over 6, 000 bulbs per day but we are currently producing 300 as we are guided by the current demand,” admitted Kgomela, stressing they want to grow the initiative to its full potential.

The factory currently employs 30 workers but the owners hope to double the number as the business expands.

The Bulb World recently took members of the cabinet on a tour of the facility to appreciate the capabilities of the LED bulb manufacturing company.

At the moment, The Bulb World products are only available at Square Mart supermarkets in Gaborone and Palapye.

“But we are in the final stages of listing in Choppies and Trade World, Shoprite and many others. So we will be able to supply those very soon and get our products in the retail market,” declared Kgomela.

The Bulb World manufactures a wide variety of bulbs, catering for households and offices, as well as floodlights and streetlights.

“We make the streetlights according to the customer’s specifications because there are many factors to consider. Some would want them to dim and others not so we tailor make them according to your wish,” she clarified, adding they have standard specifications for other bulbs.

Kgomela revealed the intention is to cover the whole country within the next six months. Once this is achieved, they will look at expanding into neighbouring countries like South Africa, Namibia as well as the SADC region.

“We are exploring those markets and looking at where we can start off. So, within a year we hope to be in the SADC region,” she concluded brightly.
