GOTCHA: Moyo is accused of murder

A 28-year-old man accused of the brutal murder of his girlfriend was arrested in Tutume on Saturday after a month on the run.

Zimbabwean native, Mooketsi Moyo is the prime suspect in the murder of his 27-year-old lover, Tabaka Simbi, whose blood-soaked corpse was found at Nkange village – roughly 30km from where Moyo was apprehended – on 1 June.

Confirming Moyo’s arrest, Tutume Assistant Station Commander, Lesego Kgosiemang told The Voice police swooped on the suspected killer following a tip-off that he was in town.

“He was found at Makhubula lands of Thini ward in Tutume where he used to work before he allegedly committed the crime. We suspect he fled to Zimbabwe but came back wrongly assuming that people do not know he is the suspect in a murder case,” stated the police boss, adding Moyo is awaiting his Covid-19 results and will then be arraigned before Masunga Magistrate Court.

Rewinding back to the day of the murder, Kgosiemang revealed the police received a call in the morning from a distressed woman, who reported that someone had been found in a pool of blood at Ipungu ward in Nkange.

Officers were duly dispatched and indeed found Simbi’s motionless, badly butchered body.

“The deceased was covered with a blanket. She had a deep wound on the head, forehead and eye. We suspect a sharp instrument was used on her. It also showed she was stabbed and beaten with a blunt object,” disclosed the top cop, adding an axe was found discarded near the young lady’s body.

“The woman was taken to Tutume Primary Hospital where she was certified dead,” Kgosiemang concluded grimly.
