Newly elected Francistown Mayor Godisang Radisego has called for the spirit of togetherness between Councillors for the benefit of the people they serve in the second Capital.

Radisigo escaped a challenge from Itekeng ward Councillor Lesego Kwamabala and triumphed 12 votes to 11, with one spoilt vote to claim the Mayor’s covered golden chain.

The Satellite South Councillor who was also the party caucus’s preferred candidate has been the Deputy Mayor since February 2017, taking over from the late Lechedzani Modenga.

In his maiden speech the Mayor said not only does he accept the responsibility that comes with being a Mayor, but also the trust and confidence that they bestowed upon him.

“Our city has experienced a significant decline in its economic base as a result of the closure of the mines that provided the live wire of our existence. This therefore calls for a robust approach in identifying alternative means of survival,” he said.

“It is my utmost belief that together we will find lasting solutions to this mammoth task of uplifting the livelihoods of the community that we serve,” he said.

Radisego further said that he has observed that the city has a lot of dilapidated infrastructure such as street lights, roads and buildings.

“It is upon this background that I urge you all to embrace the city’s revitalisation plan and implement it to the letter as this will go a long way in improving the appearance of the city which will in turn attract investors,” said Radisego.

Radisego will be deputised by Tati Town Councillor Gaethusi Ramolotsana who garnered 15 votes against Tshwaragano ward Councillor Gaone Majere’s 9 votes.
