Following his dismal performance at the polls during the 2019 general elections, former Member of Parliament for Shoshong, Dikgang Philip Makgalemele is likely to resurface at former President, Ian Khama’s office, The Voice can reveal.
Information gathered by this publication has indicated that the former Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development has approached Khama for a job as a Private Secretary.
Although it has been the norm at Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to award election losers with diplomatic and specially elected posts, Makgalemele ended up unemployed after President Masisi overlooked him.
A source within the BDP has alleged that Makgalemele’s plea to work for Khama came up in negotiations during an attempt by the Botswana Patriotic Front attempt to recruit him to their fold.
Although the former MP denied that he approached Khama for a job the former president speaking through his Private Secretary, Mabedi Letsholo confirmed that the former minister did.
“The former President has indicated that yes Makgalemele has shown interest in working as his Private Secretary and so have others,” said Letsholo. Makgalemele lost his seat to Aubrey Lesaso of Umbrella for Democratic Change after getting a paltry 3 843 compared to Lesaso’s 8 475.
