A woman who tried to knock some sense into her love rival with a stone will spend the next twelve months in prison for grievous bodily harm.
Had she not shown remorse for her actions, 33-year-old Onkamile Masisi (33) of Sorilatholo would have been looking at doing a 4-year jail term, but Molepolole Magistrates court considered her plea and suspended three years of the sentence.
Masisi is said to have attacked her love rival, Kekgatlhwaemang Phitlha, on December 22, 2018 at an entertainment joint as she believed she was having an affair with her boyfriend.
According to facts of the case, on the fateful day- at around 9 pm, Masisi who was in the company of her boyfriend, Rantwa, confronted Phitlha while on entertainment at Platinum Bar at Ditshegwane village.
The enraged Masisi had allegedly overheard Masisi remaking that she could not join Rantwa as he was with his girlfriend.
Seemingly angered by the remarks, Masisi picked a stone and hit Phitlha on her face, knocking her to the ground with broken teeth and a bleeding mouth.
The accused woman pleaded guilty to the charge and admitted that she did not have any legal justification to cause permanent harm to Phitlha. “I pray for forgiveness, may the court have mercy on me as I have children with Rantwa,” she pleaded in mitigation.
Magistrate Kaveri Kapeko considered Masisi’s plea and gave her a lighter 12 months sentence.
