A man accused of hurling profanities at his mother and threatening to kill her was on Wednesday remanded in custody by a Molepolole Magistrates court.
According to court documents, David Botlhe Kwenaeetile, last Sunday morning insulted and threatened to kill his mother, Tshokologo Kwenaeetile.
He is said to have uttered the words: “I will take an axe and smash your head. I will kill you with an axe while you are sleeping at night, you old witch. Why don’t you take me back into your womb, why did you give birth to me?”
The 36-year-old Kwenaeetile is said to have launched the verbal attack last Sunday morning after his mother asked if he was the one who closed the standpipe tightly and she requested him to loosen it.
He was last Wednesday arraigned before Molepolole Chief Magistrate Goabaone Rammapudi- Lesedi facing a single count of threat to kill.
Kwenaeetile who seemed to be taking the matter lightly told the court that he confronted his mother about the matter and that she promised they would handle the issue as a family and requested that the matter be withdrawn. “I am also mentally ill, may I be assisted and be taken to the hospital,” claimed Kwenaeetile before leaving the dock.
Pleading for the accused’s remand, the prosecutor Inspector Thema Marumolo, told the court that he was not aware of any reconciliation attempt.
The magistrate ruled in favour of the prosecution that the accused be remanded pending investigations and ordered that he be taken to the hospital for psychiatric examination.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the court exceeded the normal 14 days of remand and set August 19th, 2021 as the next mention date.
