OKAVANGO VOICE JEALOUS WOMAN WHO POURED HOT OIL ON LOVER TO SPEND FESTIVE IN JAIL

A woman who recently poured boiling cooking oil on her boyfriend and badly burnt parts of his body is set to spend Christmas and new-year holidays in prison.

Even though the prosecution is not against her being granted bail pending trial, Tebagano Masia, did not show up for mention at Maun Magistrate Court on Thursday last week, leaving the court no choice but to postpone her next court appearance date to January 7th, 2021.

“We had arranged for her to be transported here from Francistown, but learnt very late that she was in fact placed at Mahalapye prisons and not Francistown, hence we could not bring her in today,” Prosecutor, Paul Basupi told the court.

34-year -old Masia has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to her 40- year old boyfriend and baby daddy, Mokgethi Boikuelo, by pouring boiling oil on his body at his house in Matsaudi village, outside Maun.

Speaking briefly to Okavango Voice in an interview on Friday, Boikuelo who is nursing a burnt face, chest and thighs, alleged that Masia was a jealous lover who habitually abused him.

“She wanted me to withdraw the two cases of abuse I had brought before customary court and when I told her the cases were beyond me she started accusing me of cheating and saying some lady had told her that I want to send her to jail. As she kept shouting and throwing tantrums in the house I dozed off, only to be woken up by pain,” Boikuelo explained before adding that, “It was only God who saved my manhood, just part of it was burnt.”

He said after pouring oil on him, Masia ran away with the car keys.

“My body was burning, I couldn’t see properly because she poured it on my face as well and the neighbours could not immediately rush me to the clinic because she had run away with the car keys.”

Boikuelo had reported two cases of violence against Masia and alleged that on two occasions the woman had smashed his car windows because she suspected he was cheating on him.

“The truth is that our relationship has challenges and we fight a lot. At the time she smashed my car windows we were separated because she nearly burnt down my house. Out of rage she had set my clothes on fire in the middle of the house in another fit of jealous rage, but she wanted me back by force, when I refused she smashed my car.”
