*Over 1, 800 residents on home quarantine
*Total confirmed cases near 3, 000 mark
The Boteti Sub-District is grappling with increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases.
According to Council Chairperson, Molemi Galaragwe, as of last Thursday, there were 2, 825 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Boteti, of which 332 were still active.
Speaking at a Botswana Red Cross Society groundbreaking event in Letlhakane last week, Galaragwe revealed Boteti had 1, 800 people on home quarantine and 262 on home isolation.
He was quick to point out it was not all doom and gloom, noting the region has recorded 2, 475 recoveries.
“The number of recoveries shows that the Ministry of Health is really doing well. However, the rest of the figures show that we have a challenge,” admitted Galaragwe.
The Council Chairperson said while 2020 was a challenging year for everyone across the world, three months into 2021 it is evident the new year is set to be just as tough.
As of 19 March, out of 35, 170 Covid-19 cases recorded in Botswana, 485 had proved fatal, with 2, 135 still active.
Galaragwe stressed that such figures cannot be ignored but applauded government for doing its best to combat the disease by investing the required resources ‘to fight the faceless monster’.
“It’s unfortunate that even these resources are limited, which led to the suspension of some of the important government projects to focus on fighting the scourge,” he concluded.
