CHARGED: Gabanatsela

Nearly three years after a driver at the Department of Information Services was charged for shooting a man to death, allegedly in a dispute over a horse, the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) will finally commit the matter to the High Court for trial.

The case was delayed due to lengthy investigations and compilation of important docket documents.

One such important document was a post-mortem report which was only filed in court this week.

The court informed the accused, Gopolang Gabanatsela, that his bail would be revoked in his next court appearance set for August 10th, should the case be committed to the higher court.

Maun Chief Magistrate, Thebeetsile Mulalo, explained to Gabanatsela that this is because the magistrate court process would have been concluded and that if he needs bail, he would have to apply to the High court for that.

Mulalo was advising Gabanatsela to come prepared, mentally for remand in the next mention date.

Gabanatsela, then aged 52, allegedly gunned down Taolo Serapelano- in his mid thirties, back in 2020 in full view of two witnesses, a day after he found him riding a horse he had been looking for.

It is not yet clear whether the horse belonged to Gabanatsela as the matter is yet to go on trial.
