MISSGEEKAYS FED UP
While Shaya commends and celebrates Khumo Kgwaadira aka Missgeekays, for her hot new food joint, Kana Kgang, it’s such a struggle coming to terms with the fact that she’s no longer pumping up our airwaves with her unmatched energy!
Shaya has been unapologetically stalking her, hoping to read an announcement on which station she’s going to next, only to hear from her Juice 2.0 interview that she’s fed up with local radio stations.
There have been so many unconfirmed rumors on why Missgeekays retired so early from radio – she only turned 33 last month – and it seems whatever the case is, it’s got her mind made up. All hope is not lost though because it appears she may be looking outside, which is even better!
Shaya is praying that those doors will open and that our lebonza will return to us.
GLITZ OR DRAB
That time of the year when the Glitz Awards leave us dazzled and dazed by flooding our feeds with their nominees has arrived.
Seeing that they even make it a point to share their page analytics, Shaya is starting to think that their list of nominees is carefully crafted to ensure that it boosts interaction with their posts.
Judging by the looks served at the nominations party, Yours Truly can confidently say that there is zero glitz and glam in most of your nominees.
If you really want to empower the creative sector, perhaps review your selection panel.
ANOTHER MAMPEEZY PROMISE
One thing Shaya has noticed about Vee Mampeezy, he has this ‘save the day’ syndrome which, although admirable, sometimes ends in broken promises and bitter rivalries.
I sure hope that won’t be the case concerning his promise to not only sponsor the production of Thato Tladi’s ‘Wena Fela’ video, but to book him at the 2nd edition of Vee Mampeezy’s Last Man Standing.
During your pillowtalk, Sphalaphala please remind your boo that booking means the artist will get paid, lest we have a sequel to the Oska Bora Teachere movie.
‘PEANUTS’ LEAVE SOUR TASTE
Shaya was shocked by an invitation from the District Commissioner’s office in Goodhope inviting Thabang Garogwe and Anafiki to Mindset Change activities in the area for P2, 500 each. Although the invite regards to the two as crowd pullers, the payment does not reflect that. Shaya is impressed that Garogwe turned down the invitation because this is an insult for a brand that he has worked hard for. I mean, how do you pay such peanuts in this era?
What will our counterparts think when they learn this is what our government offers its artists while talking of uplifting the industry? No wonder so many creatives are living in depression!
Even if the late, Johnny Kobedi (MHSRIP), who loved money so much, was to wake, he was not going to accept such a pittance.
The way I know him, he was going to give you a stern word on exploitation before heading back to his work station at the bus rank.
The BOMU crew, Secretary General Rasina Rasina and President, Fresh Lesokwane, please stand up and fight for our artists.
