A 30-year-old single mother of Boronyane farms near Maun who recently won a brand new car from Lewis store says she has been in shock for two weeks.
Gloria Thabare, a mother of three, says when personnel from the furniture store visited her at her home in Boronyane, near Ostrich farm to inform her about her fortune three weeks ago, she was in denial and thought they were plotting evil against her.
“They found me home with my youngest child. So when the furniture store people told me I had won a car, I thought they were scheming to take me to Maun so that they can send me to prison. I am still struggling to pay for the P7000.00 bedroom suite I bought on hire-purchase, so I thought they wanted me for that,” explained Thabare between giggles.
During the interview on Thursday, shortly after being handed over the Toyota Etios at Maun Lewis store, Thabare said she was still very much nervous, “I still cannot believe I own a car. You know when they visited me at the farm, I cried bitterly because I did not believe them. In fact they had to go to a white lady next door to ask her to explain it to me and give me assurance that when I come to Maun, I will receive the car.”
Thabare who said she was nervous for the next ten days after the visit said she could not even finish a small serving of food after that, “I went through all sorts of emotions. It is only now that I have received the car that it feels real. All along I was in denial. I never owned a car before, I am unemployed and I do not even have a driver’s licence.”
However, the boyfriend, Kealeboga Modika who is the father of her three children says he will be driving the car.
The 31-year-old safari guide who sold his Toyota Corsa in 2017 because he could not afford its expensive parts said: ”God has his plans. His ways are not our ways. I am truly happy for this gift. It is in fact a perfect gift for us to start a new year well.”
Thabare just like all customers of Lewis who buy on hire-purchase was automatically entered into the car competition draw last year, hence the surprise win.
