The new kid on the fashion block has been unveiled.

Botho of Botocy fl anked by her models at her fi rst showcasing in Botswana

An Honors Fashion Design graduate from Linea Academy in Durban, Botho Chalebgwa showcased her collection, under her brand name Botocy, for the first time in her Home country, at the Gaborone Fashion Nite recently. With the use and mix of fabrics such as, shweshwe (leteisi), textured knit, mesh, chiffon, cotton twirl, leather-look-lightweight-suede, and balsan (twisted crepe), the young designer got more ‘oohs!’ and ‘aahs!’ than a lot more established names have ever been showered with.

Jumpsuits are timeless and they look even more so when fitting well

Rightly so, because her chic yet sophisticated designs carry with them such femininity and style every woman could picture themselves looking hot in more than one. Botocy creates wearable, practical and across-age appeal that is rare.

When this young woman first got in touch with me through this Fashion page, beginning of 2010, about the frustrations and lack of support for young designers in this country, I should admit that I had no inclination I was dealing with a small dynamite, wow! Arriving in Durban for the Durban July and visiting her school, I was not only impressed by her designs but the seriousness in which she took her work. Then on, I knew I owed it to my country to play a role and use whatever facility I had access to so her talent is shared across the board. After a few articles on her, sharing stage at a fashion show with big names such as Koketso and Mpho Kuaho’s, and Kaone Kario wearing her designs, came as the next step for this feisty young designer.

The fearless have a chance to make a statement with flowing-chiffon

Botho calls her latest line, the EthniCAN Goddess collection, and describes it as pure sophisticated modern day regality with an understated hint of sexiness. Botho said this collection was inspired by the desire to beat the winter blues by injecting a bit of zest into the working woman’s wardrobe.
“Zest needn’t be too over powering or inappropriate, therefore the collection is somewhat simple yet trend orientated, with focus on a more muted colour palette comprising of dirty pinks and sandy caramel tones .This is complimented by dashes of burnt orange and bold royal blue pieces which add a fun flair to the collection,” added the hottest young upcoming designer Botswana has been blessed with.
