Last weekend they held a concert in Francistown and donated P20 000.00 to different charity organizations in the city.

The concert, popularly known as ‘BDF Bands in Concert Style’ is an annual event where the army personnel demonstrate various talents and also realize the BDF’s social responsibility of assisting the needy in society. It was initiated by President Lt General Seretse Khama in 1991, when he was still the commander of the army.

Local jazz artist Warrant officer Lister Boleseng gave the audience in Francistown a special treat with a five-star performance of his song ‘Take time to know her’.
Meanwhile, four other venues in Selibe Phikwe, Molepolole, Lobatse and Kanye are lined up for this year’s event

At least 200 orphans and vulnerable children at the Botswana Retired Nurses Society Morwa Branch will today (Friday) receive a free Create-a-book personalised storybook.

Mascom Wireless Botswana sponsored the books as Christmas presents in the interest of promoting literacy in the community and a giving a gift that shall become a keepsake for a lifetime.
The books were printed and bound by Prolific Edutainment, Create-a-book’s licensed dealer in Botswana.

According to Keneilwe Ndlovu of Prolific Edutainment each beautifully full-colour illustrated hardbound book, is made up individually for a child with his or her name, age, hometown and friend’s names into each story.
“Create-a-Book personalised storybooks create a love for reading and children will be delighted to read about themselves.

These worthwhile books teach children the value of owning books and become a keepsake for a lifetime. They also increase the child’s self-esteem, thereby his or her ability to learn,’’ she said.
She said Create-a-book personalised storybooks have proven to be a unique motivation in encouraging children to read because once children recognise their own name in print, it whets their appetite for a lifetime of reading!
“After all, wouldn’t you read a book if it was about you.

It’s an excellent idea for everyone concerned”, said Ndlovu. She said the community also gets to know about Create-a-Book so that their children, too, can derive benefit from the value of a personalised storybook.
