Botswana Prisons Services have confirmed the re-capture of three of the fugitives who escaped from Francistown Center for Illegal Immigrants last year January.
According to Senior Superintendent Kabelo Gaseitsiwe, the three prisoners- Bruce Masuku (29), Thabani Ncube (30) and Innocent Nyoni (35) were all facing murder charges in Francistown.
Masuku and Nyoni were awaiting committal to the high court for trial while Ncube was still mentioning at the magistrates court.
“They were arrested in Zimbabwe recently and as we speak they are awaiting Interpol processes before they can be extradited to Botswana and it normally takes a long time,” Gaseitsiwe said in a telephonic interview with The Voice.
He further stated that the three men were arrested after committing other offences in Zimbabwe.
The three were among the eighteen prisoners who escaped on January 14th last year in broad day light at the Francistown Centre for Illegal Immigrants.
Fifteen of the escapees were Zimbabweans while three were Batswana.
Nine of them were re-captured and sentenced to six months in prison while one (Charlotte Ndlovu) died some days after his re-arrest last year.
Those who were arrested are Givemore Chaloba, Godwin Mapunganyika, Gaomodimo Molosiwa, Sicelo Sibanda, Thabani Ncube, Mlindeli Moyo, Mthokozisi Sibanda and Rowland Moyo.
Five of the escapees are still on the loose and they are Chakalani Barati, Elvis Ndlovu, Dzikamani Ndebele, Sunganati Tafiraushe, Brilliant Thabisani and are all from Zimbabwe.
