In life, some utterances you want to ignore hoping they will bounce off and not become a constant irritant. But of course bearers of bad news or negatively rarely move on, so you need to deal with them head-on.
So here it is; those fond of saying people nowadays are ‘rushing’ to God out of desperation, I say forget it, you are not going to intimidate me out of sharing the good news.
In fact, I say you are wrong because if “problems” were the key to salvation, the whole world would be saved, for I don’t know anyone with all functional thinking senses who is not continuously challenged. In fact, the higher you are, the greater the problems. Even the richest man on this earth, whoever Forbes says is, has a mountain of issues to deal with.
Of course, I wish to continue to stay in the ignoring mode, and disregard the talk that today, being Born-again is a phase, a fad! There is this former friend (can’t afford to keep company of negative people) who is fond of saying; “some are doing the Christian thing out of desperation. It’s nothing but a phase…”
What a phase that is! If ‘everyone’ is professing Christ Jesus as the Lord and savior, maybe the Good news of the second coming of the Lord will soon be confirmed. Oh! How I wish.
Good thing with such talk, however hurtful and spiteful it can be at times, is that it is a good test of character. It is just one more step to build you and I, to test our belief, our faith. In any case child of God, don’t we know that we have to ride the ridicule to be strong? Yeah, it is, and of course we have been warned it will happen.
In fact, just like the early Christians, we have to stay strong, and use any negativity thrown our way to hold tight to our faith. “(You) have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary,” declares Revelation 2:3 and many other encouraging scriptures.
But to be honest, I think the reason I have endured this ridiculous talk for long without responding is because I realize that I cannot always be caught in a battle of convictions and beliefs. These are personal things that go hand in hand with principles and character. And to be always defending my beliefs is not worth the engagement.
Of course I may be wrong.
The mere fact that I have been for a while now risking my comfort zone to share to all sundry, even irritating those whose position can threaten my professional growth, may be because I understand I have to. It is hard to stay quite when you have something good to part with, and the Gospel of Christ Jesus has been nothing but good to me. I cannot but tell of the goodness of the Lord, as the opposite will do nothing but deny the next person the need to know, and even the break-though they so need. In fact, it is testimonies of God’s work and power in our lives that do truly impact on others.
The change for good that happen in my life, your life, may have a greater bearing on someone else, and sharing how you can to the point of change may be switch of light that another needs in their lives.
So, Mzalwana, whatever the reason for living for Christ, or how you found that path, do not be ashamed to share. In fact, share the good news and let the glory of God shine through you. And when someone tries to make you feel guilty about “preaching too much”, remember what my all time favourite preacher and author of Christ Jesus’ Gospel, the Apostle Paul wrote 2Timothy 1: 8-10;
“Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”
There you go, phase or no phase, I live for Christ, and nothing or no one will make me guilty of walking and sharing his Word. And you shouldn’t either. God’s love will hold you up as and when you walk and share his Gospel. Be blessed and remember that your test is just but a moment for your testimony.
