Team Francistown Technical Chairperson Otto Tafa has appealed to the Francistown community and business houses to get behind the team as it prepares for the Botswana Games.
Francistown will host the games in December and Tafa says with the backing of the local community they can make the town proud.
Speaking to Voice Sport after getting reports from coaches of different codes at Ntshe House on Wednesday afternoon Tafa said:
“Individuals and companies can all help us to prepare teams for the games. We need all the support we can get. I call on all to help. Even a bag of oranges for a practice session will go a long way in helping the team. As for companies they can help with things like sponsoring kit for team, providing transport or any need they think they can handle”.
The Team Francistown Technical Chief went on to say that as hosts the Francistown community should own the games and do their best to make them a success.
“This year’s games belong to us and every one of us should play their part” he said.
Quizzed on how Team Francistown’s preparations were going Tafa said things were on track and he expected his technical team to have announced their final selections by mid next month (August).
“We have selected players from all codes and are busy working with them and trimming them to the numbers we need. The coaches are working hard to pick the best from the bunch”, he intimated to Voice Sport.
Tafa went on to point out that as soon as the final selections are made resources would be needed to get the different codes training.
“As we speak we have no money. The Botswana National Sports Council has not yet released money for our preparations. Even after they do we will still need help and I again appeal to individual and companies to come to our aid in whatever way they can” Tafa plead
Meanwhile the Francistown Stadium which is expected to host most events was handed to the games organising committee this week.
