Police in Gumare are investigating an incident in which suspected human bones were last weekend discovered at Habu village.
Gumare Police Station Commander, Superintendent Dennis Zilawe, confirmed that the bones were discovered in a bush by a passerby while he was looking for his cattle and he immediately informed the police.
“We found the bones buried in a termite mound but because it has been raining the bones were visible on the surface,” Zilawe explained.
Zilawe said their investigations are ongoing to establish if the bones are indeed that of a human being or not.
According to Zilawe, information from the village suggest that since there were no official burial places in the past, the deceased may have been buried by relatives in the vicinity of a residential area.
Zilawe says although they cannot confirm it, they suspect this could be the case as the bones looked very old.
The police boss also clarified that they do not have any case of a missing person in the area.
