My Quest

IN the spirit of worship, I do confess to my God that I am nothing without him. I give ALL – the whole package, the good and the bad.  In fact, as I write this, Judson W. Van DeVenter’s beautiful composition, ‘I surrender all’ is playing in my head.
Oh! You just have to love the music! It is uplifting and so telling. The chorus captures it all; “I surrender all, I surrender all; All to Thee, my blessed Savior. I surrender all.”
As I sing this beautiful complete message, I realise I am telling God you are in charge Father, take it all. I am turning over everything. But of late I have been pausing and wondering just how honest am I. For if I am totally giving all in the full knowledge that when I do, I have nothing to worry about or fear, why is it that certain situations are shaking me up? Why am I being challenged at every turn?
My sister, my brother, my mother and my father, I think you know what I am on about. And by now you know me, I am past blaming God for I know there is no reason to. In fact, I will be wasting this precious space and moment to dwell on the blame game, for I know God my Father is blameless. Call it blind faith, and I will go yepee, guilty as charged.
Back to the issue at hand. In my early walk with the Lord, like many of you, I was not only on fire, but I was fire.
I did not shake at the sight of challenge. I knew and lived by Jesus Christ’s promise found in the book of Matthew 19:26.
In the earlier verses, Jesus reveals to a rich young man that to get eternal life, not only was he supposed to live the perfect sinless life but also to sell all to give to the poor. The scripture says on hearing this last part, the man walked away in sadness.
After giving them a good analogy of why it was difficult for the rich and the famous must I add to be saved, Christ Jesus told his followers that “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” From the day I got this revelation, I knew for me to walk this life of faith, I needed to know that only God makes the impossible possible.
In fact, I knew, and still know that to really get the good Word of the Lord to work for me, I had to give all.
Shoo! That’s where the real issue comes to play. You see the word surrender means just that, surrender! In fact my dictionary uses words such as ‘cease resistance’, ‘submit to authority’, ‘give up’, ‘hand over’, etc.
Give it up! And when you do, the Bible promises that God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit will step up to the plate and do everything, I mean everything, for you. So it is easy, isn’t it? I think by
now you my friend know it is not. Somehow, despite the promise for good, you and I still refuse to let go and receive God’s blessings. Why?
I am still talking to the good sweet Holy Spirit to help me understand why I am stuck in the moment of stubbornness instead of just stepping forward to receive what is truly mine. In the meantime, my Father is teaching me to rely on him. And I am grateful, for I will not be in a position to understand where you are my friend unless I have walked the path. So take care, and let God take total
control of your life, and you will see God’s promise coming to pass. Be blessed in your surrender, my surrender.

Lets sing the song
Oh I nearly forgot, here is the complete song (borrowed for our benefit from the Timeless Truths, the Online music library.)

“All to Jesus I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all…”
All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.
All to Jesus I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.
All to Jesus I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.
All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred fl ame.
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!”
