Despite the drama and attention that accompanied the high-profile arrest of former Director of Directorate of Intelligence Service (DIS), Isaac Kgosi, he is yet to be charged with anything.
This was confirmed by Kgosi’s lawyer, Diba Diba of Thabiso Tafila on Wednesday, who told The Voice that as per his knowledge, his client was arrested and searched but no charge was laid.
Information gathered by this publication is that a number of people are implicated in Kgosi’s alleged shady deals.
“For example, those who connected electricity at his farm are alleged to have been given some ‘cut’ to do that,” stated a highly-placed source, who further claimed the whole government system ‘especially cabinet’ is implicated.
“It will take time to compile a formal charge because it links so many people,” added the source.
Kgosi is accused of tax evasion and was arrested last Tuesday at Sir Seretse Khama Airport on arrival from a wedding/holiday with his family.
Since then, DIS, BURS and the Police have conducted a thorough search of a number of Kgosi’s properties.
Last week, Kgosi’s successor, DIS Director General, Brigadier Peter Magosi confirmed seizing some documents and electronic gadgets.
However, it is still not clear why the spy agency got involved in a supposed issue of tax evasion instead of BURS.
