Stanbic Bank Botswana Staff and Management took time during the Presidents Holiday to raise funds for Charity through the Y-Care Makgadikgadi Pans Walk.

WALKING FOR CHARITY: Stanbic staff

The Stanbic Bank 14 member team participated in the 110km charity walk over three days, raising a total of P97, 500 through the initiative. The team left on Friday 13th July and returned Tuesday 17th July 2012. “After 7 years of involvement, Stanbic Bank sees itself as a partner more than a participant in the walk.

This is not only an opportunity to raise funds and generate goodwill, but a team building exercise allowing our staff to interact amongst themselves and networking with other participants,” said Ruth Modisane, Stanbic Bank’s Public Relations Manager.

The walk took place over a 3 day period, with the participants walking from Mosu to Kubu Island and then back to Mosu. The initiative is aimed at achieving various objectives, some being, to explore the beauty of Botswana’s nature and culture, whilst raising funds for charity. It also gave the walkers an opportunity to physically challenge themselves when pitted up against the elements of nature. “The team were looking forward to the walk, and were well prepared psychologically and physically.

We knew that it wouldn’t be a walk in the park as we had to fend for ourselves against the forces of nature. It was however a great motivator to know that our efforts will go towards providing a helping hand to those in most need,” said Stanbic Bank Team Leader Tlamelo Mothobi.

Stanbic Bank has to date donated more than P462, 500 to the organisation, having participated in the walk since 2005. The funds raised by Y Care Charitable Trust are used to address the different societal needs including youth, orphans and vulnerable children, development of art, the environment, health and sports.

The Y Care Makgadikgadi Walk began in 2003 and has since benefited thousands of people in the country. This initiative sees Stanbic Bank coming on board in order to ensure that it gives back to the communities that it operates in.
