GUILTY: Modisaotsile

A soldier at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB) was today (Wednesday) found guilty of malicious damage to property after admitting to the charge.

During the trial before Mogoditshane Customary Court, Headman of Records Tswina Mochudi, Otshepeng Modisaotsile (40) admitted that he smashed a glass table and microwave at his ex-girlfriend’s place in Maulana ward, Mogoditshane on March 1st, 2016.

According to the facts presented before the court, Modisaotsile went to Irene Kanata (34) around 8 am in the morning while she was still sleeping.

He knocked at the door and he got infuriated whenKanata took long to open for him.

Later on, when Kanata unlocked the door, he got inside the house and smashed the glass table and the microwave which was in the kitchen.

Modisaotsile pleaded with the court not to sentence him to prison as he cares for his children and his mother. He remorsefully pleaded to be given chance to buy the table.

Considering his plea, Mochudi said he was fortunate that he is above the age of 39 and the law does not allow corporal punishment on people of his age.

He ordered Modisaotsile to pay P100.00 court fine within seven days and P640.00 for the damaged table within 14 days.
