Seven strokes for contempt

Just a month after another prison escapee was flogged for contempt of court, Francistown magistrate Ishmael Molobe has ordered that re-captured prison escapee Givemore Chaloba be flogged at a Customary court for contempt.

The 26-year-old Chaloba from Kutamogoree was the ninth jail breaker to be nabbed; arrested in Zimbabwe on February this year. Chaloba received the wrath of the Magistrate after he accused him of ill treatment.

‘‘This prosecutor once said to me, gompieno ke go tshwere o nyetse, ga ona Kwa o yang teng, sale o di dira,’’ Chaloba claimed in court.

He said he had witnesses who could testify on his behalf and threatened to open a case against Molobe.

Chaloba’s fate was however sealed when he turned his rage on the prosecutor calling him a useless officer with nothing of value that can be stole.

“That is an insult to the prosecutor and this court,” warned Molobe before ordering that the irate Chaloba be flogged seven times at a Customary court.

The escapees are to appear before court next month.
