Thero Setsile was the toast of the day as his solitary goal gave Jwaneng Galaxy their much needed victory against BDF XI in the first leg of the Mascom Top 8 semi finals yesterday in Jwaneng.
It was Setsile’s last goal and victory in Botswana’s top flight football as he gets ready for his move to South African side, TS Galaxy tomorrow (Monday).
He has signed a two year deal with the National First Division side.
The tightly contested Mascom Top 8 fixture saw the two sides breaking for halftime with a goalless draw after they failed to convert any scoring opportunities.
But it was Galaxy who showed more resilience in the second stanza as Patrick Kaunda’s combination with Olebogeng Malebye unhinged the soldiers’ defense and allowed Setsile to find the back of the net.
BDF attempted an equalizer but Galaxy’s goal minder, Ezekiel Morake was up for the task. Setsile was named Man of the Match.
Speaking after the match,Galaxy Coach Miguel Da Costa said he was happy that they did not conceed any goal as it was going to work as an advantage to the visiting opponents going into the second leg.
“I am happy with the result. In the first half my boys did not come to the party but in the second we had 5 clear chances and managed to score 1. We need to work on that. It is not yet over and I anticipate the second leg away to be tough,” said Costa.
Matebele Coach, Nelson Setshwane said they failed to utilise their chances and got punished. He said it is one of those games where a coach’s plans get shattered and the players pick up in the last minute after the introduction of other players.
“Looking at all the departments, we seriously lack a bit of confidence. We lacked combination and easily lost possession. This is a cup game and we seriously need to address that they should work on their confidence. First half we did well but we needed just a goal to change the game. We will see them in the next game,” said Setshwane
For his part Setsile said he was excited that he gave his team a win in his last game.
He said initially the Coach did not want him to play but he insisted that he wanted to do it as a farewell to his team mates and fans.
He said going to TS Galaxy he is going to work hard so that he finds himself a place in the Premier League.
