Botswana Congress Party leader, Dumelang Saleshando, has expressed his disgust at the recent report by the Ombudsman in which the public protector exonerated Khama from any maladministration and abuse of office.
The Ombudsman- Augustine Makgonatsotlhe, cleared Khama of any wrong doing following concerns by the BCP that the president was using public resources to build his Mosu home.
Makgonatsotlhe further accused the BCP of launching a witch hunt against the president.
To drive his point home Makgonatsotlhe said their analysis have shown that all matters brought to the Ombudsman’s office by BCP always precedes General Elections.
Speaking at the party’s leadership forum in Palapye on Saturday, Saleshando came short of dismissing Makgonatsotlhe as a man incapable of doing his job.
“If we can’t bring complaints to him before elections, what is the right time?” Saleshando asked rhetorically.
The BCP leader and the coalition Umbrella for Democratic Change Vice President said from the report the Ombudsman expected the BCP to do their own investigations before bringing the matter to him.
“He even went further to remind us about Presidential immunity. That’s not what we enquired from him, all we wanted was for him to find out if the right processes were followed in Mosu, not whether Khama can be taken to court,” charged Saleshando.
“I believe ridiculing the BCP was the Ombudsman’s farewell gift to the president. He was looking for something that would make Khama very happy,” he added.
