Rollers through to the Mascom Top8 Final

Township Rollers sailed through to the Mascom Top8 season final on away goal rule after playing a one all draw against the defending champions, Jwaneng Galaxy, in their semi final second leg game last night at the National stadium.

The semi finals ended 3-3 on aggregate but Popa had an advantage of scoring two goals away in their first leg where the game ended 2-2.

Popa were the first to find the back of the net through Motsholetsi Sikele on the 26th minute and the game went to half time with Rollers leading 1-0.

Terrence Mandaza managed to level the scoreline in the second half but it was not enough to see Galaxy shining through to the finals as Rollers defended their lead for the remaining eight minutes.

Speaking after the game, Rollers Coach Nikola Kavazovic gave credit to his boys for the efforts they put in the game. He said Galaxy was a tough opponent and that the game was not easy.

“I am happy we progressed to the final. Our two strikers Mogorosi and Msomi are on suspension but their team mates did well to cover up. The  substitutions I made worked for us because they managed to defend and control in middle of the park. Boyo Lechaena and Kaone Vanderwesthuizen came in to strengthen our full backs and closed the flanks. Sikele and Lemponye Tshireletso asked for substitution because they were injured,” said Kavazovic

Galaxy Mentor Matshidiso Moseki said it was frustrating not to be able to defend the cup, but he was happy that his boys did not lose the two games. He said the distribution from his young goalkeeper Ezekiel Morake was not good and Ofentse Nato was winning the ball which worked against him.

“I don’t blame him, he is young and playing against a team of Rollers calibre he is bound to make mistakes. Coming into the game we wanted to score first and not concede but our opponents ruined our plan. Today our goal scorer Thero Setsile was also not at his best. Our focus now will be on the league and CAF. We stand a better chance to win the league as we are on second spot,” said Moseki.

In another Mascom Top8 Semi Final second leg fixture to be played tonight at National Stadium Gaborone United will host Orapa United. In their last encounter The Ostriches won 1-0.
