Motocross riders will add some mystique and excitement to their trade as they ride under the moonlight at the Makgadikgadi Pans this Sunday.
It is the first time the ambitious undertaking, which has been named the Makgadikgadi Moonlight Adventure, will take place.
The event will be hosted by Muddy Waters, a motocross event company run by the country’s most celebrated rider Ross Branch and Francistown Lobelo Racing Club member Lola Berrie
Speaking to Voice Sport, Berrie explained the idea was to create an event where riders and motocross followers can enjoy their passion in a relaxed, non-competetive setup with an awe-inspiring, romantic backdrop.
“Its unique, exciting and will be open to riders of dirt bikes, quads, adventure bikes and side-by-side,” she said, adding that the build up to the event will start earlier in the day.
According to Berrie there will be an off-road event for adult riders followed by a fun, flat track ride in which juniors will also participate.
She went on to say that the highlight of the day will be the Free Style Motocross Show, billed for just before sunset.
“A renowned South African Free Style team will show off their stunts. This is the main event which will start when the moon is at its peak at about 8pm. It will be accompanied and backed-up by an array of other fun but extreme events,” said Berrie.
On another note Berrie explained that riding at night will not compromise the riders’ safety as the track will be marked with glow sticks, with ambulances on standby and track marshals to guide the riders.
There will also be an after-event party featuring DJ’s and live performances from a number of groups.
Registration for the event takes place at Gweta Lodge on Saturday.
