An 81-year-old man succumbed to severe allergic reaction following a freak attack by a swarm of deadly bees in Francistown’s Monarch location
Superintendent Lebalang Maniki of Central Police Station in Francistown confirmed the incident and said the elderly man had been at his tuck-shop when an army of the angry insects descended, dispersing customers and attacked the old man.
“We responded to the report on Thursday afternoon. His companions and customers managed to run for their lives, but due to old age the victim could not escape. One of his companions tried to rescue him but it was too late. He was taken to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital where he was certified dead upon arrival,” Maniki said.
The station commander also stated that it was their first time recording such an incident this year.
He urged the public to always notify the Agricultural department whenever they see bee colonies in their neighbourhood.
He said it is dangerous to disturb a beehive as the insects can attack and fatally harm anyone in the vicinity.
