General Manager: Mmetla Masire

In an effort to promote sports development at grass roots level in the country, Debswana Orapa and Letlhakane Mines (OLM) have donated P20,000 and the use of sporting facilities to the Botswana Football Association (BFA) to assist in the running of the on-going School of Excellence (SoE) programme.
Commenting on the donation, the General Manager of Orapa and Letlhakane Mines, Mmetla Masire said that since the SoE was launched in 2001, the Mines have eagerly supported BFA in running the programme, as a way of contributing to the Association’s objective of promoting and encouraging the development of youth football in Botswana.
“BFA’s School of Excellence is a good training ground for developing young athletes. However, it faces challenges of lack of funding, equipment and inadequate facilities. These challenges affect the number of participants that can be enrolled at a time, and they compromise the noble intentions of the programme,” Masire said.
“Since inception, the School of Excellence programme has produced quality players, some of whom play in our national teams. In the spirit of patriotism and aligning our corporate social investment initiatives with government objectives such as sports development, OLM remains committed to being a partner with BFA in this programme,” he added.
When acknowledging OLM’s gesture, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of BFA, Susan Monametsi thanked OLM for this donation, saying that it further strengthens the relationship that exists between the two (2) organisations, adding that it will go a long way in assisting athletes to develop to greater heights.
