Former Gaborone United mentor Major David Bright has finally got the player he wanted in Ecco City Greens nimble footed attacking midfielder Tendai Nyumasi.
Nyumasi is set to join Cape Town Santos next Thursday where he will link up with the former Reds coach; Voice Sport can exclusively reveal. Bright tried to lure the skilful player to Gaborone during his tenure at GU but Ecco managed to hold on to their most valuable player.
Nyumasi, who joined Mamoja Diskie at the beginning of last season, was on the wanted lists of many clubs, both at the lower divisions and the Premiership in the neighboring South Africa.
However, information reaching this publication is that Cape Town Santos FC have moved swiftly to lure the talented Zimbabwean forward into their nest ahead of the July/August transfer window period.
The 27-year-old midfield maestro is expected to leave next week to sort out the paper work ahead of his pending departure to join the former premiership side.
His agent, Comfort Ramatebele confirmed that the attacking midfielder is set to leave the country for South Africa next week. However he was quick to point out that: “It will be premature to discuss the player’s impending move to South because there are a number of teams from both the ABSA Premier League and First Division drooling for his services,” said Ramatebele.
But the player agent did not deny that Santos is one of the teams chasing for the player’s signature.
However, informed sources so close to developments taking shape between ECCO and Santos, the player is scheduled to join Santos without undergoing trials.
Sources further hinted that Santos have agreed to buy Nyumasi out of his running contract with ECCO expected to end in August 2016.
Efforts to get a comment from ECCO officials hit a brick wall. Both the ECCO chairperson Stanley Mababa and his assistant, Mothibedi Lathang were not answering their mobile phones until press time.
