GOVT. PROJECTS NOT MONITORED
Officials in the Ministry of Infrastructure have admitted that there has not been monitoring of projects to avoid cost overruns and possible corrupt practices.
Permanent Secretary Dipogiso Mokotedi says in the wake of projects been over priced and taking too long to complete, the ministry has approached contractors to pressurize them to finish projects on schedule or face penalties.
Mokotedi was giving submissions before the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee this week.To date, the contractor responsible for the country’s second state university, BIUST in Palapye, China Civil construction, has been fined over 3 million Pula for failing to deliver the project on time. The first phase of the project was expected to be complete by April 2010 but it is not yet complete.
BMC BOARD RESHUFFLED
The minister of Agriculture, Christian De Graaf has replaced Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) Chairperson following concerns over BMC’s operational failures.
In addition, the reconstituted Board went on to make changes at BMC, dismissing some of the senior managers and warned the CEO, David Falepau, that should he fail, he will also face the chop.
