Human Rights activist and attorney, Uyapo Ndadi, of Ndadi law firm will this weekend travel to Sebina in his first move towards instituting a private prosecution against a suspected child molester, Councillor Kemmonye Amos.
Ndadi’s trek to the northeast village would be for purposes of carrying out his own investigations into the matter so he could know how to proceed.
The law firm took the decision to be in the forefront of a private prosecution following an apparent reluctance by the police to lay a charge against the councilor because the 16- year- old schoolgirl he impregnated was allegedly over the age of consent.
Speaking to The Voice on Wednesday Ndadi said, “We need to hear what the police are saying, and establish the whole story. If the parents have connived, children’s act allows us to report the parents and the parents can be liable to an imprisonment of up to 15 years and a penalty not exceeding P50, 000 or both. The law does not condone conniving and if they have done that, they would have failed in their duty to protect the parent.”
The lawyer also plans to meet with the police and the accused councilor during this trip.
