Francistown’s Lobelo Racing Club will host the third meeting of this season’s Botswana Motocross Championship at the Dumela Racing Track on Saturday.
Speaking to Voice Sport on Wednesday, Lobelo’s spokesperson Lola Berrie said the event, which is sponsored by Afimatrx, is expected to attract a strong field of up to forty riders ranging from juniors to masters.
“We have registered 35 so far but we expect some last minute registrations,” she explained.
Berrie went on to say that South African riders will also compete, something that is hoped will inspire local riders to try and outdo their more celebrated neighbours.
“One of the top South African lady riders, Toni Jardine is coming. In the male category popular MX2 South Africa riders Anton Henrickson and Wade Den will represent South Africa,” said Berrie.
Looking to fly Botswana and Lobelo’s flag high and proud at the race are local riders Dartagnan Lobjoit, the Davis brothers Clayton and Deegan, Nathan and Tristan Berrie, Aryan and Amaan Parekh, Wade and Wyatt Swanepoel Francois Jacobs and Calvin Collington.
Local motocross legend Ross Branch won’t be at the meeting and it will be up to these riders to salvage some glory against the experienced South Africans.
The event starts at 10 am and entrance is P30 for adults and P20 for children.
