Local meat distributor, Lebopo Bulayani of the SAMKET Group believes there is great potential for local meat producers.

In her observation as the Group’s Marketing Personnel said she had come to realize that there is a huge market for Botswana beef both regionally and internationally.

She however noted that the current Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) Act has made it hard for business as the parastatal is still the only legitimate exporter of Botswana beef to the international market.

“All is not lost though as there are plans in place to open up the market in the not so distant future, all licensed abattoirs will soon be allowed to export beef,” said Bulayani willfully.

The SAMKET Group distributes meat to African countries such as Namibia and Mozambique through the Port of Beira and also exports local meat for the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) and the Ngamiland Abattoir to as far as Vietnam and Kuwait.

Speaking to Voice Money in an interview recently, Bulayani revealed that she also co-hosts The Meat Extravaganza (TME) slated for 31st March 2018 at the Hide Out Farms in Tlokweng, less than a kilometre from the border.

Talking of the Meat Extravaganza, which aims to empower the youth in all aspects of business, the enterprising Bulayani said the event is an opportunity for the young and old to come and experience Botswana meat, including game, which will be prepared in different styles and flavours.

The event will also offer a platform for entrepreneurs operating in the meat industry to benchmark from each other as well as put a spotlight on local artists.

Some of the acts billed for the show include multiple awards winning singer-songwriter, Amantle Brown, “Tlhomela” hit-maker; Mlesho, Kwaito trio MMP Family, DJs Gouveia, Guyvos and Cuebass.

MCs for the event will be the Radio presenter and sports agent Big Fish and Alpha.

Apart from meat appreciation, TME will also feature build-up events to the 31st March that will look into the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) industry.

“SAMKET Group through its subsidiary, SAMKET Events, has vast experience to pull off an event of this magnitude which will not only give attendees an opportunity to sample different meat dishes but will also facilitate a convenient space for networking,” she said.

Bulayani also added that the attendees of the buildup events will deliberate on the future of events in the country in cognizant of what is currently at play within the industry.

“The Meat Extravaganza is not only looking at the youth in and around Tlokweng but anyone from as far as Kasane and Maun,” she said.
