The exhilarating Mascom Top 8 tournament returns with improved packages which include prize money, man of the match and the individual prize awards adding on the excitement that comes with the tourney to the football fanatics.

This year’s 9th edition of the Mascom Top 8 will see the Champions walking away with a whopping 1.4 Million Pula as compared to the 1.3 Million Pula which was won previously, man of the match will pocket P5000 while the player of the tournament will receive a P55 000 windfall. Furthermore, a new trophy was then unveiled at the event.

When giving a keynote address at the launch on Tuesday, Acting Chief Executive Officer at Mascom Makwande Seboni said they are exultant about the partnership they have with the local football governing body (BFA). “It has been a great journey with BFA and would like to thank them for this partnership as it has been bearing fruits ever since its inception and I am proud to announce the journey continues and with little bits of upgrading to grow local football,” she said.

On the other hand, Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) CEO Martin Mokgware said they were impressed with what Mascom have been doing to Botswana football and enhancing communication for many years. “We take pride in all our operators but the Mascom Top 8 makes a huge part of corporate social investments which are mainly focused towards sports development, we continue to celebrate the relationship that Mascom has with BFA which has been fruitful through the years,” said Mokgware.

OUTCOME OF THE DRAW

On the sidelines of the Mascom Top 8 launch, Voice Sport caught up with Jwaneng Galaxy Public Relations Officer (PRO) Tankiso Morake who said he was impressed with how the draw turned out. “We have been drawn with Gaborone United (GU) who we humbled at the Mascom Top 8 Final last year, so they are going to come with revenge intentions which I think it is going to be interesting as our aim is to win this cup back to back,” he said.

Meanwhile, Orapa United will face the high flying Security Systems, Molepolole City Stars entertaining Township Rollers, and lastly the battle of the forces in BDF XI and Police XI locking horns.

The first quarter finals are expected to be played on the 22nd and 23rd of November 2019.
