*Couple forges marriage certificate
*Blackmails woman into paying over P32 000. 00
A conniving couple accused of hatching an evil plan to fleece an unsuspecting woman of her money through an elaborate marriage wrecking scam has been exposed.
The couple’s plan allegedly backfired after a marriage certificate they used to blackmail Ogomoditse Bella Sehularo (36) into parting with P 32 700.00 worth of property for wrecking their marriage turned out to be a fake document.
Botho Malela (44) and 30 –year- old Lebang Maikano from Kanye now face two charges of obtaining by false pretense and uttering a false document after police exposed their marriage to be a sham.
This week, they appeared before the Molepolole Senior Magistrate Lindiwe Makgoro and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to sources close to the case, sometime in June 2016, Sehularo met and fell in love with Maikano.
A month later the new boyfriend arranged for his fake wife(Malela) to catch them in bed and accuse Sehularo of marriage wrecking.
“She attacked me while yelling “ke wena o nthubelang motse fa ke sa bone monna wame jaana o ko go wena, (you are the one wrecking my marriage. My husband has been neglecting me and now I know you have been the one keeping him away.”
Seemingly offering a solution, Maikano quickly advised Sehularo to compensate the angry wife with cash.
Sehularo offered P5000.00 cash to be paid the following day but in the meantime Malela confiscated Sehularo’s Samsung laptop worth P5000.00.
The following day the blackmail continued with Malela demanding more money pretending she was from the court where she had established that should she prosecute, Sehularo would be liable to a P80 000.00. fine.
The terrified woman ended up applying for loan at work where she got only P10 000.00 to pay the couple.
Hungry for more Malela went to Sehularo’ house and took juice pressure jar valued at P850.00, braai cooker valued at P450.00, 3.5kg gas cylinder valued at P400.00 and four leather jackets each worth P1000.00 which all came to a grand total of P32 700.00.
Smitten with the fraudster Sehularo continued with the affair until Malela caught them again and took naked pictures of them, which she threatened to circulate on social media unless she was paid P75 000
Broke and in debt Sehularo eventually confided in her mother and the whole family who then reported the blackmail to the police.
Police investigations then revealed that the two lied that a certain Noelen Ndlovu at Francistown solemnized their marriage on the 27th (Saturday) of September 2014.
A letter from the Francistown, DC Cordelia Mpape dated October, 04th 2016, states that there was never a marriage officer by the name of Noelen Ndlovu in the District Commissioner’s office.
“Marriages in the Francistown Office are only done during the week. We never solemnize marriages on Saturdays as the certificate stated. The office does not hold any record of the two and the registration number they have included in their marriage certificate belongs to another couple,” the further states in part.
In her comment to The Voice, Malela however accused Sehularo of spreading lies about her.
“I don’t know how my names are linked to their issue. Maikano is just a friend, I even know his girlfriend, and my husband knows him as he sometimes visits us. I don’t know anything about the forged marriage certificate, I have never seen it,” she said
For his part Maikano claimed to be shocked by Sehularo’s claims.
“Sehularo is my girlfriend. She proposed love to me so I was shocked when she showed up at my house with police officers to take my properties which she claimed belonged to her when I have splashed my money on her as she told me her boyfriend was in prison,” Maikano charged
The suspects Malela, a Manager at Jet Stores in, Nzano Mall, Francistown and Maikano(unemployed) are set to appear in court for mention on September 5th
